Auto-Value needs your own Anthropic key entered in Settings. Double-check it's pasted in full with no extra spaces — that's the most common issue.

An API key is a personal password that lets an app talk to an outside service on your behalf — it's how that service knows the request is coming from you, not someone else, and who to bill for it. Auto-Value's photo identification doesn't run on our servers — it asks Anthropic to do that work, using a key you get yourself and enter in Settings. eBay pricing is different: it's built into the app itself, so there's no eBay key to set up at all.
Used to identify what's in your photo — the actual AI vision call that names the item. Without it, Auto-Value can't run at all. Get one at platform.claude.com — Anthropic charges a small pay-as-you-go rate per call, billed directly by them, not us.
Once the AI has identified your item, the app looks up real, current eBay listing prices for it automatically — and powers Barcode Scan the same way (matching a scanned code straight to eBay's catalog). Nothing to sign up for or paste in. When eBay has no listing for an item, Auto-Value falls back to a rough estimate from Claude's own knowledge instead, clearly labeled as such and never counted as a live eBay match.
Not required for anything else — you can add items, set prices, and track your whole collection with no keys at all; the Anthropic key only unlocks the AI-powered photo lookup. That key is stored only in your device's Keychain and sent straight to Anthropic to make that specific request. eBay price lookups are relayed through a small backend of ours — the identified item's name, and sometimes the item's photo when a name search alone doesn't find a match, pass through it on their way to eBay, the same way they'd have to reach eBay directly. That backend exists purely to keep our own eBay API credentials out of the app; it doesn't log or store anything that passes through it.
